Qatar Airways: business class from the US Central region to Japan from 92,750 Avios
Qatar Avios work in two ways here. JAL and American nonstops from Chicago and Dallas to Tokyo are priced by distance, in the 5,501–6,500 mile band, at 92,750 Avios one way. Qatar's own flights via Doha have been booked at about 100,000, so the nonstop wins, but only by about 7,000.
How Qatar Airways prices this route
USA Central → Japan · business, one way
Two award systems in one currency. JAL and American are priced by the total distance flown. Qatar's own flights via Doha use unpublished route pricing, so the price shown is what has been seen, not a chart. Flexi awards on Qatar cost 2× Standard when Standard seats are gone.

Qatar's partner chart, rebuilt from 2026 bookings (Qatar doesn't publish it). Distances shown are straight-line airport-to-airport; Qatar prices the total distance actually flown, so a connection can move an itinerary into a higher band. Qatar's own flights via Doha are not on this chart. Some routes are seasonal or run reduced schedules.
Good to know
- Qatar awards are one way, so you can book the return with another program.
- Houston and Denver have no JAL or American nonstop to Japan. Via Doha from Houston is the same about 100,000.
- Taxes on JAL and American are low. Qatar’s own flights add Qatar’s carrier surcharges.
How to find seats
- 1 Search JAL from ORD or DFW about 361 days out. Qatar members can book JAL seats about a month before AAdvantage members, whose window opens at about 331 days.
- 2 Also try American from DFW to Haneda or Narita. Same 92,750 price.
- 3 If partners are full, search Qatar via Doha and pick Standard, not Flexi. Qatar's own seats come out around 361 days, in random batches, and again 1–14 days before departure.
- 4 Transfer points only once you see the seat.

Questions people ask
Why not just add USA–Doha and Doha–Tokyo?
Qatar prices its own flights as one trip. DFW–DOH–NRT was booked at 100,000, while the two flights booked separately would cost about 135,000.
How close is Dallas to the next band?
DFW to Haneda is 6,462 miles, 38 under the 6,500 mile edge. Any connection on top pushes it to 108,250.
What's Flexi?
Qatar's own-flight award that opens up more seats when Standard is sold out. It costs exactly twice the Standard price, so about 200,000 here.
Is 100,000 guaranteed on Qatar's own flights?
No. Qatar doesn't publish a chart for its own flights. 100,000 is the Standard price people have booked; peak dates run higher.
I have Chase points. Can I use this?
Yes. Transfer Chase to British Airways Avios 1:1, then combine them into Qatar Avios 1:1 in the Qatar account. Link the two accounts first.
